Mindful of the upcoming National Council elections, we wish to announce that there will be no session of Bhutan Dialogues for the month of April. The next session of Bhutan Dialogues will as usual take place on the 2nd Thursday of May.
Topic: Is education responsible for imparting culture?
Host: Dr. Karma Phuntsho is the founder of Loden Foundation, a development organization that promotes education and entrepreneurship in Bhutan as well as the Shejun Agency for Bhutan’s Cultural Documentation and Research.
Speaker: Dr. Francoise Pommaret (Aum Tashi Wangmo) is the recipient of National Order of Merit- Gold from His Majesty during the 2017 National day celebrations. She is a cultural anthropologist, Director of Research at the National Centre for Scientific Research, France and Associate Professor at the College of Language and Culture (ILCS), Royal University of Bhutan. She has been associated with Bhutan in different capacities since 1981 and has published numerous scholarly articles and books on different aspects of Bhutanese culture. She is currently involved in the documentation of the Bhutan cultural atlas www.bhutanculturalatlas.org and is working on the interface between deities, local powers and migrations in Bhutan. In 2015, she was honored with the highest French award La Legion d’Honneur for her lifelong contribution to the relations between Bhutan and France.

Kanokpan Lao-Araya: Mrs. Lao-Araya has an extensive experience in the international development industry with a strong focus on economic development, fiscal policy, and strategic planning, just to name a few. As of this year, Mrs. Lao-Araya is serving as the Country Director of the Asian Development Bank in Bhutan. Mrs. Lao-Araya and Dr. Phuntso will be speaking about “Finance and Economy: Money Matters” on December 14th.
