Outcome One: Sustainable Development

Bhutan One Programme 2014-2018: (pdf, 3MB) is the strategic document for all UN agencies in Bhutan that makes up the outcome one. It comprises four outcomes and 23 measurable outputs with an estimated five-year budget of USD 86.6 million. Sustainable Development aims at increasing, equitable access, utilization and quality of inclusive essential social services for all with a focus on sustaining and addressing emerging challenges by 2018.

To achieve this goal, the Bhutan One Programme will emphasize on:

  • Green economic policies
  • Food and nutrition security
  • Poverty, climate and disaster resilience
  • Disaster risks preparedness
  • Generating sustainable employment and alternative income opportunities, particularly for women, youth and other vulnerable groups
  • Promoting pro-poor trade and industry opportunities

The Outcome Groups consist of government and civil society organization representatives who monitor and implement the activities of each outcome. For the Outcome One, the UN co-chair is UNDP, and government’s co-chair is the Gross National Happiness Commission (GNHC).
